Being diagnosed with a degenerative mental health issue can affect even the most basic daily tasks. It’s a lesson Sha Yao learned firsthand when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Yao watched as her late grandmother’s dementia worsened, wishing there was something she could do to help. That’s when she took action and created Eatwell tableware, a set designed to help those suffering from dementia — and those caring for them.

The Eatwell set features high contrast colors to stimulate appetite and to distinguish foods. The plates are designed in a way so that food collects to one side, increasing the amount of food a patient eats by up to 24%. It also features an anti-slip spoon, curved spoons and an anti-tip cup.
